The Season of Giving also includes giving towards self-care! However, when life gets busy, especially during the holidays, it’s easy to forget our most basic needs.

Here are 3 essential self-care items to include on your holiday shopping list!

1.  Essential Oils

Aromatherapy is a type of alternative medicine that uses essential oils to enhance your well-being, usually through smell. Different oils have different uses and benefits that affect both physical ailments and emotional well-being!

2. Bath Bomb

Similar to essential oils, bath bombs promotes relaxation and helps tо detoxify tһе body when added to warm water. It helps release harmful toxins, soothe muscle tension, and relieve stress. It will transform your bath experience into a luxurious spa, all in your own home.

3. Toothbrush

It may not be the shiniest gift, but it’s a forgotten necessity. When was the last time you replaced your toothbrush?

Here are 3 ways to determine if it’s time to say goodbye to your toothbrush!

1. Has it Been Over 3-4 Months?

According to the American Dental Association (ADA), toothbrushes should be replaced every 3 to 4 months. Studies found that bristles break down and lose their effectiveness around then.

2. Examine the Bristles Condition

Frayed bristles lose their effectiveness and can cause trauma to the gums.

If you say YES to any of the following, then it’s time to get a new toothbrush.

  • Do they look worn out, fanned out, or frayed?

  • Are the bristles drooping/not standing up straight?

  • Does the bottom of the bristles (near the base) have food waste that won’t rinse off?

  • Do you see dark color changes? (Sign of mold)

3. Have you Been Sick?

If you recently had a cold or respiratory infection, replace it immediately. Using the same toothbrush can put you at risk of being re-infected, and can infect neighboring toothbrushes.

How to Take Care of Your Toothbrush

  • Rinse after use. Thoroughly rinse the toothbrush to remove any toothpaste residue or debris.

  • Store upright and air dry. When you store a moist toothbrush in a closed container, it can increase bacteria growth.

  • Never Share. Store toothbrushes in separate holders to avoid spreading germs or accidentally using someone else’s brush.

Having a routine to replace your toothbrush will ensure healthy oral hygiene. Encourage your family members to change their toothbrushes as well. Make this a team effort!
